"Headwaters For Change"
Keeping his culture, a young man stands in his cedar hat & wearing
around his shoulder a woolen shawl, behind him is Komo Kulshan (Mount Baker)
with the Nooksack River running down & winding into the headwaters of
the Salish Sea. The Lummi tribe have been resilient & flow with change.
It is at the headwaters that the Salmon experience changes from salt water
to fresh water, on their way up river to Spawn, the salmon swim through the
headwaters. The Lummi's believe that the headwaters for change occur by
sending our children to college, it is higher education that will bring about
the direction that the tribe needs to go. The eagle is part of the Lummi
emblem and represents strength & higher inspirations. Riding the winds
of change, the eagles have sharp focus & can see far off in the distance.
We need to focus on our long-range vision like the eagle.
